Amanda Nunes picked up her third straight win Saturday night at UFC 196, defeating Valentina Shevchenko to begin the main card.

For the 27-year-old Brazilian, the win moved her Octagon mark to 5-1, with the lone loss coming two years ago to former title contender Cat Zingano. Nunes is no 12-4 overall, holding wins vs. Sara McMann, Shayna Baszler, Germaine de Randamie and Sheila Gaff.

“This was a tough fight for me,” she said. “I never fight three rounds, but this is the next step in my career.

“I train at American Top Team, the best gym on the planet.”

For Nunes, the win moved her to second on the UFC bantamweight list, one victory behind former champion Ronda Rousey. She had a striking advantage over Shevchenko and scored with two takedown attempts.

The fight was the first time since 2013 that Nunes went the distance. That was a loss to Sarah D’Alelio in Invicta FC.

Shevchenko fell to 1-1 with the UFC and 12-2 overall. She earned a win over former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman in her Octagon debut last year.
